TEA Fund, La Frontera Fund, and Lilith Fund have partnered to introduce HB 895 or “Rosie's Law”. Rosie's Law is a historic piece of Texas legislation that protects the health of Texans by expanding access to abortion care. Rosie's Law honors the life of Rosie Jimenez, a Chicana from the Rio Grande Valley and the first known woman to die of an unsafe abortion after politicians passed a federal ban on public insurance coverage, the Hyde Amendment, in 1976.
Rosie's Law, filed by Rep. Sheryl Cole of Austin, would enable coverage of abortion care for Texans enrolled in the state's Medicaid program. It has been assigned to the Human Services committee and we need your help to move this legislation forward to protect Texans seeking abortion care.
The right to have an abortion is nothing more than symbolic if people are unable to access the care they need. This historic legislation could assist low income people in accessing abortion. Show your support for Rosie's Law by calling members of the House Human Services committee TODAY!
