Demand Trump Invoke the Defense Production Act

As we face the worst public health crisis of our lifetime, President Trump has refused to use every tool at his disposal to protect health care workers and save lives.

This is why we are calling on President Trump to fully utilize the Defense Production Act (DPA), to streamline production and distribution of much needed materials for healthcare workers. The Trump Administration's disorganization and inaction has left states fighting with the federal government and among themselves for needed equipment, which has created unnecessary shortages, price increases, and chaos.

The federal government has already used the DPA to require increased production of desperately needed protective gear and medical supplies. But without a clear process in place, states are forced to compete and place bids for essential supplies. Without additional action, doctors will continue to lack vital protective gear and critically ill Americans will be unable to access life-saving equipment. President Trump must take immediate action to ensure patients and healthcare workers have the resources they need.
