Palestinian Lives Matter

We hear everywhere strident calls for solidarity with Israel and an outpouring of sympathy for Israeli casualties while remaining silent on – or worse, justifying -- the fate of millions of people trapped in Gaza under Israeli bombs.

Our establishment is saying, in effect, that only “Israeli Lives Matter.” We cannot accept this. All lives, Israeli as well as Palestinian, will not be safe unless we change US policy that effectively fuels the violence and provides one-sided financial, diplomatic and military support to the radical rightwing and Apartheid government of Israel.

If we truly value all lives in Palestine-Israel, then it is time for a new US policy that promotes peace, justice and human rights for everyone.

Palestinian lives matter -- not just Israeli lives.

Rather than “revenge”, we should demand an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation.

But all lives, Israeli as well as Palestinian, will not be safe unless we change US policy that effectively devalues Palestinian lives and fuels the violence by providing one-sided financial, diplomatic and military support to the radical rightwing and Apartheid government of Israel.

If we truly value all lives, then it is time for a new US policy that promotes peace, justice and human rights for everyone.

Our government must rethink its one-sided support for Israel at the price of ignoring the humanity of Palestinians. Rather than vilify advocates of peaceful BDS to pressure Israel, the US must back a peace that recognizes the human rights of all.

The U.S. government should immediately take steps to withdraw military funding to Israel and to hold the Israeli government accountable for its gross violations of human rights and war crimes against Palestinians.   The U.S. should use its leverage to bring an end to the occupation -- instead of supporting it as some in Congress and the White House are now proposing.

When Israeli policies create the need to defend itself, then it should be their taxpayers, rather than Americans, who pay for it.

In the political and diplomatic arena, the US must support a peaceful settlement that upholds international law which demands an end to Israeli occupation and annexation.
