Florida prisons are unhealthy and unsafe for the people who live and work in them. Physical abuse, lack of air conditioning, grossly inadequate medical care, crumbling facilities, chronic understaffing, and insufficient rehabilitative programming are just a few of the problems in Florida's prisons -- that we know about. We need independent oversight of Florida's prisons to know what the problems are and hold the state accountable for fixing them. We need independent oversight because:

• Families need to know their loved ones will be safe in Florida prisons;
• Incarcerated people and staff need to be protected from violence;
