For too long polluters have continued to make profit while damaging our climate, imposing great health risks to our communities, and harming our ecosystems. Climate change has already cost Oregon billions, and it's only going to get worse. Fossil fuel corporations warmed our climate, and should pay their fair share of the costs! With Oregon's Polluter Pays bill, SB 1187, the largest oil, gas and coal companies are liable for the costs of their pollution to our state. The revenue will then be used for climate disaster adaptation and resilience efforts, as a “climate superfund". “Polluter pays" is a core principle of environmental law — it's only fair.
