Urge Congress to Enact Universal Background Checks

Urge Congress to Enact Universal Background Checks

For far too long, Congress has failed to address the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our nation. Over 385 mass shootings have already happened this year alone, and over 11,500 people have been killed in gun violence. The recent horrific mass shooting at Apalachee High School is yet another gut-wrenching tragedy of gun violence. There will be more if Congress does not take action.

Enough is enough. JDCA supports common-sense gun safety measures including universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, red flag laws, safe storage requirements, and more. We demand that Congress enact these critical, life-saving measures to keep our communities, schools, places of worship, and loved ones safe.

That is why JDCA continues to support universal background checks and other measures to combat gun violence. A comprehensive approach must include extending and creating universal background checks for all gun sale purchases, and prohibiting a firearm transfer between private parties unless a licensed gun dealer, manufacturer, or importer first takes possession of the firearm to conduct a background check. Keeping Americans safe should be a bipartisan priority for all members of Congress. Our Jewish values teach us the importance of rejecting violence and promoting peace. Congress must now pass universal background checks. Contact your members of Congress today to urge them to pass these critical measures to help combat gun violence in the United States.
