Good sidewalks are fundamental to a complete transportation system. Two years ago, voters agreed on this and approved Initiated Ordinance 307, also known as the Denver Deserves Sidewalks initiative, which transferred responsibility for sidewalks from individual property owners to the City and established a funding source that would ensure the buildout of a complete sidewalk network within our lifetimes.
However, the ordinance has been in limbo, awaiting amendments aimed at addressing concerns from some community members. City Council is finally considering amendments to this ordinance, as recommended by the Sidewalks Stakeholder Committee, that would modify the program's fee structure by adopting a flat fee for every property and providing an instant rebate for low-income households. Read more details on our blog.
To avoid further delays and to start fee collection as soon as possible in January 2025, please take a moment to email your councilmember urging them to swiftly enact the Stakeholder Committee's amendments. We encourage you to adapt the language below to reflect your personal experiences walking, rolling, or biking on Denver sidewalks.
