A Call for Unity and Solidarity in the Face of Violence

Earlier this week, George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was murdered by the Minneapolis police, in a continuation of the long history of criminalization, dehumanization, and oppression of Black lives in this country since its founding. As Asian Americans, we cannot ignore the role of Officer Tou Thou who stood watch as George Floyd was dying. For too long, Asian silence in the face of anti-Black racism has supported white supremacy.

By signing in support, you stand with the 20+ Asian Minnesotan organizations whose letter calls on us as Asian Americans to show up in solidarity and choose our shared liberation.

Together, we commit to Black liberation and raise our voices to say that #BlackLivesMatter. We commit to amplify the demands of Black organizations and leaders seeking justice for George Floyd and to center his family and community in this moment. And we commit to the ongoing work of addressing anti-Blackness in our own communities and fighting for Black lives the way we would our own, because we understand that our fates and our liberation rely on our unity.
