In the wake of last week's devastating floods, Kentuckians are supporting each other in powerful and inspiring ways, even as our hearts are breaking. Thousands of people across multiple eastern Kentucky counties have lost loved ones, homes, vehicles, infrastructure, and any sense of security. Rescue efforts are on-going. The death toll now stands at 37 lives lost, with hundreds still unaccounted for. As other communities across the country and globe have learned from earlier experiences with climate disasters, recovery from this storm will be hard and slow. Kentuckians will need to keep showing up with and for each other for the long-haul.
We are grateful that KFTC members, staff and people working with ally organizations in eastern Kentucky are - as far as we know - physically unharmed. But the losses and trauma people and communities are dealing with are profound. KFTC is committed to mobilizing community support for a Just Recovery now and in the days, weeks, months, and years to come.
This week, we're calling on KFTC members to show up by donating money, donating materials, and/or volunteering on the ground in Eastern Kentucky. 100% of the donations you make at the form below will be given to EKY Mutual Aid, an on-the-ground organization of Eastern Kentuckians working to help people with their immediate needs in the aftermath of the flood.
