The Trump administration has been quietly deporting hundreds of Asian immigrants to Central America, leaving families — including pregnant women and children — stranded in unfamiliar countries with no idea what will happen next. Lawmakers must act now to investigate these dangerous and inhumane deportations.
Why This Matters
Under a veil of secrecy, immigrants — many of them asylum seekers— have been sent to countries where, they have no ties, and no access to phones, passports, or legal counsel — according to media reports. Families deported to Costa Rica didn't even know where they were being sent until after they arrived.
Deported immigrants are now trapped in dangerous conditions. In Panama, hundreds have been trapped in a hotel, while others have been transported to a jungle camp in the Darien Gap —one of the most dangerous migrant routes in the world.
By abandoning immigrants in legal limbo without due process, the U.S. is violating basic human rights norms. Many of those deported are asylum seekers fleeing persecution. Sending them back to danger is both cruel and unlawful.
What You Can Do
Tell Congress to investigate these secret deportations. Demand transparency, accountability, and immediate protections for vulnerable immigrants.
