Tell Congress: Oppose Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP!

The US House of Representatives just passed a budget resolution that would cut Medicaid funding by $880 billion and SNAP funding by $230 billion over the next 10 years. This proposal still needs to go through the reconcilliation process with the Senate, but these cuts would be disastrous for Washingtonians across the state.

The fight to preserve funding for lifeline programs is just beginning. We need to ask our Representatives and Senators to stand firm to protect Medicaid, SNAP, and programs that provide essential services to our state's most vulnerable residents. In 2023, Washington received $12.5 billion in federal funding for Medicaid. Without this funding, our state's healthcare system would be gutted. Hospitals across Washington would be forced to close, especially in rural areas, limiting access to healthcare for all patients whether they are covered by Medicaid or private insurance. At particular risk are already vulnerable populations: 47% of children in Washington are covered by Medicaid, and this number skyrockets in rural areas.

SNAP provides lifeline food assistance to our friends and neighbors. In 2024, 1 in 9 Washington received support from SNAP. Cutting funding for this essential program would make life harder for families already struggling to make ends meet.

The Republican House budget resolution would cause catastrophic harm to our friends and neighbors in service of cutting taxes for billionaires who already avoid paying their fair share. The proposed cuts wouldn't make a dent in the loss of revenue from billionaire tax cuts, but they would dramatically increase poverty and leave millions without healthcare.
