UDC Online Authorization for Membership

There are two steps to becoming a member of SEIU Local 500. The first step is to complete the Authorization for Membership. The second step is to authorize payroll deduction in People Soft. Click here to view the video instructions for People Soft.

Steps for submitting your authorization card:

Complete the fields on the authorization card below with your contact information.
Make sure that the check-box for membership is checked.
Once you have completed the Membership card for Local 500, click the “Activate your Membership Today” button.
You will be redirected to the People Soft sign-in page. Click here to view the video of how to complete the process.
You will receive a confirmation from Local 500 and a confirmation from People Soft. Please maintain a copy of both the confirmations for your records.

**Note: This process must be done each semester for your membership deductions to remain in force and to be considered a member in good standing.

MEMBERSHIP AUTHORIZATION

I request and voluntarily accept membership in SEIU Local 500 and I agree to abide by the obligations of membership set forth in the Constitution & Bylaws of both Local 500 and the Service Employees International Union ("SEIU"). I authorize SEIU Local 500 to act as my exclusive representative in collective bargaining over wages, benefits, and other terms and condition of employment with my employer. I know that membership in the union is voluntary and is not a conditions of my employment, and that I can decline to join without reprisal.

AUTHORIZATION FOR PAYROLL DEDUCTION

I recognize the need for a strong union and believe everyone represented by our union should pay their fair share to support our union's activities. In payment of membership dues for SEIU Local 500, I hereby authorize and direct the Unversity of the District of Columbia to deduct from my pay an amount equal to the dues in the amounts specified by SEIU Local 500, and to pay same to SEIU Local 500 in accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the Unversity of the District of Columbia and the Union. This authorization will remain in effect and shall be irrevocable unless I revoke it by sending written notice via U.S. mail to SEIU Local 500. This authorization shall be automatically renewed as an irrevocable check-off from year to year unless I revoke it in writing pursuant to the terms above, even if I have resigned my membership in SEIU Local 500. Contributions or gifts to SEIU Local 500 are not tax deductible as charitable contributions. This authorization is voluntary and is not a condition of my employment, and I can decline to agree to it without reprisal. I understand that all bargaining unit employees benefit from everyone's commitments because they help build a strong union that is able to plan for the future.
