Tunnel Ridge has recently applied to expand their mining operations to go under many of the headwaters to Dutch Fork Lake. Looking just south to Duke Lake and the streams in Ryerson Station State Park, we know that longwall coal mining can impact recreational assets like Dutch Fork Lake. The community has already worked to restore Dutch Fork Lake after the impacts of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Sign this petition to join with Buffalo Creek Watershed Association and the Center for Coalfield Justice, showing that the community cares about Dutch Fork Lake and its feeder streams. Taking action will help show the Department of Environmental Protection and Tunnel Ridge that they should be taking all necessary measures to ensure that Dutch Fork Lake and the headwaters are not impacted by coal mining.
