Please support and co-sponsor the Nonprofit Boards Diversity Bill (SB 2930).

The leadership boards of nonprofit organizations should reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. This legislation would require those nonprofits with the greatest financial power (specifically those that give $1 million or more in grants each year) to report the aggregated demographic information about their boards of directors. No other nonprofit is required to make such disclosure unless they want to do so. This legislation will help nonprofits better serve their communities and support stronger partnerships with community leaders through improved recruitment and cooperative leadership development.

The General Assembly already requires corporations headquartered in Illinois and public boards and commissions under the authority of the Governor’s Office to annually report demographic information about their boards. Nonprofits should be encouraged to adhere to a similar standard of reporting.
