Protect Trans Rights in Texas

From 2021 to 2023, the number of anti-trans bills introduced in TX legislation has increased over 470%.

In 2023, out of the 140 anti-trans bills filed, 7 passed.

SB 14 - Healthcare Ban for Trans Youth

HB 900 - The Book Burning Act

SB12 - Drag Ban

SB 15 - Trans Sports Ban for College Athletes

SB 17 - DEI Ban

SB 763 - Chaplains in School

HB 2127 - Pre Emption including Housing Non Discrimination

This year, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission imposed a new rule that restricts coverage for hormone therapy for transgender adults who receive Medicaid in Texas. Up until now, the restrictive coverage was not an explicit or written rule.

This is a sounding alarm and is one of the soon-to-be many incidents of of restricting access to gender affirming care in Texas.

Cruelty is the point.

Legislators and anti-trans extremists are working every day to end access to healthcare for trans folks, hoping we are pushed out of the public sphere.

They will continue their attacks, but we will continue to stand strong and fight back.

Make no mistake - trans people have always existed, persisted, and thrived.

Trans people belong in Texas (and beyond).

This TDOV, donate to support the fight for a better future.

The Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) is the largest trans-led, trans-focused organization in the state of Texas. We are an organization dedicated to furthering gender-diverse equality in Texas through a racial justice lens with an intersectional approach. TENT works to accomplish this through education and networking in both public and private forums. Through our efforts, we strive to halt discrimination through social, legislative, and corporate education. With your donation, you are helping us continue this work and help protect trans Texans' rights.

In the U.S., for every $100 donated to LGBTQ+ orgs, only $0.04 is donated to transgender-led orgs. That's 0.04% of all donations. Your sustaining gift will support:

  • Gender 101 and TransSafe workshops
  • Advocacy actions like hearing turnout and trans advocacy day
  • Individual storytelling to change hearts and minds

Transgender Education Network of Texas is a fiscally sponsored project of the Level Up Project, a registered 501(c)3.
