We, as veterans, find Donald Trump unfit to serve as Commander-in-Chief. If elected again, his prior actions demonstrate that he is a known and serious risk to service members, our apolitical military tradition, and to the U.S. Constitution each of us swore to uphold and defend.
An apolitical and non-partisan military is essential to our democratic foundations and is central to American military professionalism. We, the signatories, range the political spectrum. Without regard to partisan issues or disputes, we are simply seeking to address Trump's lack of character and the dangers he presents to our republic. [fn 1]
These are the reasons why Trump should not be President:
Numerous highly respected senior military leaders, many of whom we may have served with or under, some of whom served in former President Trump's first administration (notably, Generals Kelly, Mattis, McMaster, and Milley), [fn 2] have already stated that Trump's actions and character render him incapable of fulfilling the Presidential oath and unfit to serve as Commander-in-Chief. We agree.
Trump's words, actions, and disrespect of the military have proven that he is:
Dangerous to our republic; [fn 3]
Dangerous to U.S. national security; [fn 4]
Dangerous to American values; [fn 5]
Openly disrespectful of American service members' values and sacrifices; [fn 6]
Personally unfit to be commander-in-chief of history's greatest military force. [fn 7]
I am not a “sucker” for having served. My friends who lost their lives in service to this country were not “losers”. I will not vote for a person who says otherwise. Donald Trump is not fit to be President. I pledge not to vote for him and urge my fellow veterans to do the same.
(We appreciate the support of military families and supporters, but ask that only veterans sign this petition to bring the utmost validity to the cause.)
