Tell Gov. Lee and YOUR Rep: courts should be focused on justice not politics

Dear <<name>>,

Tennessee courts should be focused on justice, not politics.  I am writing to ask that you reject efforts in SB0868 that would politicize our court by establishing a statewide Chancery Court to hear constitutional challenges to state laws.

1. It is solving a problem that doesn't exist. Tennessee already has a process for challenges to state laws.  If people do not like a ruling there is already a democratic process in place for replacing judges and making appeals.

2. It creates 3 more, expensive, statewide elections, costing millions of dollars, driving more money and cost into politics.

3. It will cost taxpayers millions. Experts estimate that setting up and staffing the court will cost about $1 million/year. This new court will expand the footprint of government.

4. It will invite the influence of out-of-state groups. In the past, out-of-state fringe groups have become very involved in Tennessee's judicial elections. This would give them three new opportunities to play politics with Tennessee's courts.

Our courts should be focused on justice, not politics. Please oppose this this attack on our judicial branch and democracy.
