Support a Woman's Right to Choose

In an extreme and disturbing political move, Alabama's Governor recently signed into law legislation that would outlaw abortion at any stage in a woman's pregnancy, with no exceptions for instances of rape or incest. Only hours later, Missouri's Republican-led Senate passed a similar bill that is expected to soon become state law. This is the latest in a wave of regressive state laws restricting abortion access in the past year.

Many of these laws ban abortions after six-weeks, despite some women not knowing they are pregnant at six weeks, thus eliminating a woman's right to choose. Some state laws – to include Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri – go so far as to threaten jail time for both the women and the doctor.

Ultimately, these Republican legislators are aiming to overturn Roe v. Wade, which has provided the legal basis for a women's right to choose for the past 46 years. Women's rights, including reproductive rights, are human rights, and we cannot afford to go backwards.
