Why a strike fund? Because we know we must be ready for whatever challenges come our way. There are some employers who will do whatever it takes to avoid treating workers fairly.

As a union, we work together to advocate for the pay, benefits and working conditions we need to survive and do our jobs well. We meet with employers to negotiate these terms in good faith and often employers do the same, but when negotiations break down or bosses commit unfair practices, we have to be ready to take collective action.

A strike fund makes it possible to assist each other financially during a strike.

I know that if we work together, bargain in good faith and have the financial resources to engage in lawful strikes when necessary, we can make our jobs and workplaces better.

This authorization is made voluntarily based on my specific understanding that: 1) I am not required to sign this form or make voluntary contributions to the SEIU Strike Fund as a condition of my employment or membership in the union; 2) I may refuse to contribute without reprisal; 3) The contribution amounts on this form are merely suggestions, and I may contribute more or less by this or other means without fear or favor of disadvantage from SEIU or my employer; 4) SEIU Local 221 uses the money it receives for the purposes of providing support to striking workers in any manner designated by the Strike Fund Committee, and ratified by the Executive Board of SEIU Local 221. Such support may include cash payments, food, shelter, clothing, child care, and/or any other benefits which may be necessary to support said strikers for the duration of said strike(s), and as long thereafter as shall be necessary to recover from the effects of any such strike. 5) Contributions to SEIU Strike Fund are not deductible as charitable contributions.
