Take Action: Urge Congress to Support 100% Clean Electricity by 2035

The Southeast is home to some of the biggest utility systems in the nation: Duke Energy, Southern Company, NextEra, and the Tennessee Valley Authority. But the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy's (SACE) recent analysis has found that not a single one of these utilities is on track to be carbon-free by 2035, or even 2050. However, a Clean Electricity Standard (CES), which could be implemented as a Clean Electricity Payment Program (CEPP), would change that trajectory and direct the nation's power sector to be carbon-free by 2035.

To avert the worst impacts of climate change, we must slash greenhouse gas emissions and rapidly decarbonize our power sector. A CES implemented through a CEPP, will help us get to a 100% carbon-free electric grid by 2035, with an interim goal of an 80% carbon-free electric grid by 2030, and serve as the cornerstone for our broader clean energy transformation that could create millions of well-paying jobs, improve public health, and reduce bills. It can also be a tool to lift up frontline communities who are already being impacted by the climate crisis and help to right historical injustices.

With significant amounts of installed solar capacity, thousands of miles of coastline with massive offshore wind potential, and a robust manufacturing supply chain for clean energy development, the Southeast is poised to lead the clean energy transformation, and a federal clean electricity goal can be the catalyst to accelerate our progress.

Take action TODAY and send a customizable letter urging your elected leaders to support 100% clean electricity by 2035.
