The Tule elk, native only to California, are desperately clinging onto existence.

Some elk are trapped and dying behind an 8-foot fence erected and maintained by the National Park Service to protect grazing leases for dairy and meat ranchers. Their remaining ponds are dry or in danger of drying. Hundreds of elk have already died of thirst due to the negligence of our own National Park Service.

With the recent signing of the Record of Decision on September 13, the National Park Service has now sanctioned the shooting of wild Tule elk at Point Reyes National Seashore, while fortifying the entrenched cattle ranching operations that are destroying one of our most unique and fragile ecosystems.

Despite overwhelming public opposition and scientific evidence, the National Park Service has officially expanded wildlife-killing, water pollution, soil degradation and ecosystem damage at Point Reyes National Seashore by expanding private, for-profit and unregulated, private cattle ranching inside a national park!

This decision is a death sentence for many more Tule elk and signals the continued privatization, subsidization, and expansion of massively polluting, privately owned, for-profit beef and dairy ranches at Point Reyes.

We won't stop fighting for the survival of the Tule elk, and we know you won't either. Please, consider making a donation to In Defense of Animals today to help us continue our grassroots advocacy to bring this issue to national attention!

With your help we will dramatically expand the campaign to save the Tule elk, restore the Seashore, and ensure that federal protections are respected.
