Federal helicopter roundups traumatize wild horses and burros. Far too many of these innocent animals are injured or even killed as a result of this cruel practice. Deaths from broken necks and legs are routine, and sometimes horses are literally chased to death (called “capture myopathy”).
Representatives Dina Titus (D-NV), David Schweikert (R-AZ), and Steve Cohen (D-TN) have taken a stand against this brutality. After witnessing video footage of a tiny foal suffering a broken leg while being chased by a helicopter, they introduced the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act to end cruel helicopter roundups once and for all. Additionally, AWHC is supporting Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations legislation to redirect funds away from helicopter roundups to humane fertility control implementation.
Please take a moment to ask your U.S. Representative to cosponsor the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act of 2023 and fund humane in-the-wild conservation.
