In the Upper Midwest, we know how special the land that sustains us is. We know the value that good, clean water has for our communities and that a healthy landscape provides endless opportunities for sustainable economic development and recreation. We also know a vibrant community can support all the people that live in it. When factory farms are allowed to expand, they jeopardize those common values. They threaten the water and land with pollution, force small to mid-sized farmers out of business, and weaken local economies. 

But a future dominated by factory farms is not something that we have to accept. During the Land Stewardship Project's 40 years of organizing with communities, thousands of farmers and LSP members have worked together to prove that an agricultural system that puts more farmers on the land, protects our water and land, and allows our communities to prosper is possible and worth fighting for. Just as Land Stewardship Project members and supporters have done 40 different times over our 40-year history, we can organize together to say “no” to factory farms and create a food and farm system that works for all of us.
