I oppose the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline extension, FERC Docket #PF18-4. The proposed pipeline will not benefit the residents of Alamance, Pittsylvania, or Rockingham County.
Studies show we do not need additional infrastructure beyond what already exists to supply our energy needs. There are no plans for the proposed gas flowing through the pipeline to stay in this community. Any jobs or tax revenue created by the construction of the pipeline will be short term and will not ultimately provide lasting benefits to the public. The use of eminent domain for the purpose of advancing private interests is inappropriate. Additionally, the declining property values due to the restricted land use imposed by the easements MVP is seeking will perpetually put a financial burden on the property owners and county.
This proposed pipeline would pose physical dangers to the community and irreparable damage to the environment. I urge FERC to deny a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity.
