I write today to announce that Cari Searcy has submitted her resignation as Equality Alabama’s Executive Director, effective at the end of the month. Cari initially served as a member of the board of directors and was instrumental in reviving Equality Alabama and breathing new life into our organization. When Cari was hired as Executive Director, her goals included the reorganization and stabilization of the organization in order to secure, protect, and defend the rights and welfare of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people in Alabama. On behalf of the board of directors, I thank Cari for her dedication to Equality Alabama’s mission and am grateful for her passion and commitment to the organization. I wish Cari much success moving forward and extend Equality Alabama’s unwavering support to her.
Given this vacancy, the board was charged to move the organization forward and to identify and hire a new executive director. After diligent consideration, we are pleased to share that Alex Smith has been selected as the next Executive Director of Equality Alabama.
