Justice on Every Block in Pinellas

The City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County are in the middle of a housing state of emergency that our elected officials refuse to acknowledge: record-high rent on the heels of record-high evictions, wealthy investors pricing our locals, and unscrupulous landlords. The housing crisis is meeting our region's climate crisis as higher rents are forcing people into older and more vulnerable units, leaving communities to deal with leaking roofs, mold, flooding, and high energy bills.

Florida Rising is calling on our elected leaders in the City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County to make it clear through their votes and policy choices that regardless of your zip code, we all have a right to the things that make us happy, healthy, and whole:

  • our voice and vote;

  • control our bodies;

  • community-led safety;

  • safe, affordable housing; and

  • clean air, water, energy, and food that keeps us healthy.

We created our Pinellas Justice on Every Block platform as a call to action for our community and local leaders. Will you add your name in support of the Pinellas Justice on Every Block platform? Help us reach 1000 supporters to show that we have a mandate for urgent action.

Our Pinellas County Justice on Every Block Platform

To prevent evictions and ensure safe and affordable housing:

  1. Implement a housing anti-discrimination ordinances to protect returning citizens.

  2. Pass a 90-day eviction notice period for tenants who are pregnant or have children.

  3. Establish a right to counsel program that guarantees tenants representation in eviction court.

  4. Establish a local landlord registry that requires landlord registration and compliance with local safety ordinances, and make past violations accessible to the public.

  5. Acknowledge the housing state of emergency and let voters decide on a one-year rent freeze.

To ensure that our community isn't breathing toxic air,  (a) release existing data regarding odor and air quality in the Childs Park Neighborhood surrounding the oil refinery; and (b) commission an independent air quality assessment of the South St. Petersburg CRA.
