Please join us, as people who are able to survive right now on our salaries or on accumulated savings, in committing our COVID-19 stimulus checks to mutual-aid funds* and long-term grassroots movement building organizations** led by those historically most impacted by economic crises.
Millions of people have lost their jobs in a matter of weeks, and many are forced to work at great personal risk without appropriate protections, compensation, or healthcare. This stimulus money, while an important step, will still not be enough to meet the needs of many. Millions of others will not be receiving checks at all, including those who are undocumented, incarcerated, or who do not have social security numbers, bank accounts, or home addresses.
For those of us who are lucky enough to be financially stable, this is a small step we can take to ensure that we all have enough to make it through this collective crisis. We invite you to ask yourself: "How will I #ShareMyCheck ?"
If you're curious about how much your check might be, here is a calculator you can use. For people with access to high salaries or wealth, we ask that you commit at least $1200, regardless of whether you receive a check.
For more on creating long-term plans for personal wealth redistribution, check out Resource Generation's Giving Guidelines and Giving Pledge.
This is a call for pledges to track our collective impact in redistribution, Resource Generation is not facilitating the distribution of funds.
*Mutual Aid Funds: Peer-to-peer community support meeting people's immediate needs for food, safety, wellness, and health.
