Mount Hood is an Oregon icon. Its snow-capped peak shines like a beacon, visible from Portland to Smith Rock and beyond. The forests flanking the mountain provide clean drinking water, critical wildlife habitat, and world-class recreational opportunities.
But the management plan for the forest is stuck in the past. Climate change, increasing visitors, and pressure from Washington DC to aggressively log the forest mean we need a plan for the 21st Century to protect the best of Mount Hood. Places like Tamanawas Falls, Boulder Lake, and Still Creek must be safeguarded.
We, the undersigned, support increased Wilderness and Wild & Scenic River designations around Mount Hood. These rivers and forests should be protected as a legacy for future generations.
