As a New York resident, I am writing to urge you to advance the Reproductive Freedom and Equity Act (AB 361/SB 348). Every day since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, more people are being denied abortion care, making an already dire situation worse. In 13 states that banned abortion, abortion is down 95% since the Supreme Court decision. Forcing someone to carry a pregnancy against their will can have devastating and lasting consequences for them and their family.

While abortion is legal in New York, many people continue to face financial and logistical obstacles to care. The Reproductive Freedom and Equity Act would alleviate barriers to abortion care and support trusted providers and community organizations. This is a bold and visionary bill that would make clear that people who need abortion care have a place to go in New York. I urge you to add this bill to the committee agenda and advance it.

Each of us should be able to live, work, and make decisions about our families and lives with dignity and respect. In our current abortion crisis, New Yorkers can’t wait any longer for abortion justice.
