Texas Climate Jobs Project
Demand offshore jobs funded with taxpayer dollars in the Gulf treat workers with dignity and respect

Add your name as a citizen co-signer to our letter to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management urging them to investigate the state of manufacturing, construction, and operations jobs in the Gulf!

A high proportion of workers, especially immigrant workers and workers of Color in this region face low union density, low wages, little to no worker benefits, and rising income inequality. It's not just that Texas workers are earning less –

  • Texas has some of the lowest wages and benefits in the nation for construction workers.
  • If workers in Texas are hurt on the job, their company is not required to pay workers' compensation.
  • On the whole, Texas construction workers rarely have health insurance or other benefits.
  • Roughly 22% of workers have reported wage theft by their employers.
  • If you're not mad already, Texas workers are more likely to be killed on the job than someone doing the same job elsewhere.

We believe that a good construction job should ensure that workers are covered by workers' compensation or medical insurance, be paid a good wage without fear of employer theft, and that workplaces should be safe.
