Support Frontline Heroes at Oakwood Village To End the Staffing Crisis
So Workers, Our Families & Residents Can Truly Thrive!
The staff of Oakwood Village, Madison's largest senior living organization, are deeply dedicated to caring for the health and well-being of our residents. During the pandemic, we have risked our lives and the lives of our families to do our jobs, and many of us have fallen ill. Oakwood is now in the midst of an understaffing crisis which is making it difficult for workers to provide the care that all our residents deserve.
Over 300 employees were either terminated or left last year, and there are scores of unfilled positions. This has led to employee burnout, with turnover rates over 86% in some departments. Instead of listening to our concerns, Oakwood executives have changed benefits and working conditions, in violation of federal labor law. We know that Oakwood has the resources to improve staffing levels, because they are spending tens of millions on new construction and have received multiple federal subsidies through the CARES Act. Through our union, SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin, we are calling for a fair contract with “Healthcare Heroes Wages” which will retain and attract new employees to end the Oakwood staffing crisis.
