NPSC PLEDGE

The NPSC values free and open inquiry, proliferation of ideas, allegiance to data and evidence-based information, unrestricted exchange of scientific information, civility, honesty and commitment to the betterment of communities.  To maintain this stance, we require that members adhere to the following guidance:

  • I shall abide by the Coalition's rules of conduct and policies on integrity.
  • I shall endeavor earnestly to uphold the values, standards, and ideals on which our Coalition community depends and call on others to do so.
  • I shall endeavor to honestly assess the information and their sources that I convey to our constituents.
  • I shall not represent the words, works, or ideas of others as my own; will not cheat; and will not seek to mislead in communications or any other coalition affairs.
  • I shall behave with decorum and civility, and with respectful regard for all members of the Coalition—board, members, partners and affiliates—and the communities, practitioners and policymakers we serve.
  • I shall promote an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect where differences of opinion can be subjected to deliberation and reasonable examination without animus.
  • I shall uphold the values of scientific integrity by considering, through cordial debate, findings that may contrast with my personal views or evidence previously provided in that debate. This includes considering rigorous methodological standards, flaws to individual studies, and the weight of the empirical evidence as a whole within the scientific community.
  • Differences of statements on an issue shall focus on debate regarding the logical foundations or rigor of the data presented to support a viewpoint, not on the individual presenting the viewpoint with which you disagree.
  • Unacceptable discourse on Coalition forums and in events include ad hominem attacks, use of vulgar language, use of language that demeans individuals or groups and using disrespectful or demeaning language targeting individuals.
