I'm writing as your constituent to urge you to block the federal funding bill unless it removes the dangerous provision deregulating gun silencers.

As Donald Trump and his allies in Congress try to quietly strip away public safety protections, a new poll from GIFFORDS shows that the American people — including a majority of Trump voters — are vehemently opposed to deregulating silencers.

Three out of four voters in key 2026 Senate battleground states oppose this proposal, including 59% of Trump voters. Only 15% of voters would be more likely to support a candidate who loosens silencer laws — while 48% say they'd be less likely to do so. This should be a red line.

The MAGA-controlled House just voted to remove silencers from the National Firearms Act (NFA), ending long-standing requirements like fingerprinting, registration, and background checks. These safeguards have stopped mass shooters before, including those in Buffalo, NY (2022) and Lewiston, ME (2023). Removing them would be reckless and deadly.

According to Everytown's Smoking Gun's Quiet Killers report:

-Silencers have been used or planned for use in over 100 shootings and threats, and cited in more than 400 federal criminal cases.

-Sales have surged — over 830,000 silencers were sold between May 2021 and January 2024.

-A homemade silencer was used in the 2024 assassination of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson — delaying witness and police response.

Silencers aren't “safety tools”—they're tools of ambush. They mask muzzle flash, suppress the sound of gunfire, and confuse victims and law enforcement, increasing the body count. That's why they've been regulated since 1934.

Now, Trump's “Big, Beautiful Bill” threatens to erase those protections entirely.

I urge you to:
-Publicly oppose this provision and call for its removal from the reconciliation bill.
-Vote NO on any funding bill that deregulates silencers.
-Stand up for the majority of Americans who reject this extremist rollback.

Please put public safety ahead of gun lobby profits. The people are watching — and we are counting on your leadership to protect our families.
