Reproductive freedom and abortion rights are under attack like never before. The Republican-dominated Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and launched an unprecedented attack on the fundamental right to an abortion and the will of the American people. This decision gives states unrestricted power to restrict and ban abortions, as some Republican-controlled states have already done. And Republicans won't stop at the state level: Congressional Republicans like Mitch McConnell support a total abortion ban at the federal level. JDCA unequivocally opposes any attack on the fundamental right to an abortion and will continue to fight to protect reproductive freedom.
Now that both the Supreme Court and Republicans have made it clear they will not protect the fundamental right to an abortion, we must take action and pass the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA) and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. These bills would enshrine the protections of Roe v. Wade and legislatively override this Supreme Court decision by codifying the right of Americans to access abortions regardless of state laws and the right to travel across state lines to access abortion services. Almost every House Republican voted against these bills: Republicans oppose protecting the human rights of women, families, and children.
The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade directly violates the will of the people, judicial precedent, and the fundamental rights of Americans. It also defies the values and moral convictions held by the vast majority of Jewish Americans, 75% of whom are concerned about the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade. The Senate must end the filibuster and pass this critical legislation to codify Roe into law and protect our fundamental rights.
ACT NOW to urge your Senators to pass the Women's Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act, and thank Democratic members of Congress who voted to pass them. Everything is on the line.
