Too many working families in Nebraska have no access to paid family leave to care for a new child, a sick loved one, or themselves during a serious illness.

Public policies need to catch up with the needs of the current and future workforce.

No parent should have to choose between caring for their new child and keeping their paycheck. No one facing cancer should be left with no option to pay the bills while getting lifesaving treatment. No daughter or son should have to forfeit their long term earnings in order to take time to care for an ill parent.

The Unicameral should work to expand access to paid family leave here in Nebraska.

Nebraskans need action. Nebraskans need time to care. Simply talking about family values is not enough.

• Nebraskans have a responsibility to care for our children and loved ones.
• Nebraskans want good jobs with quality benefits.
