Health Professionals Call on International Peace Contingent to Protect Palestinians from Genocide

We, the undersigned medical and health professionals and organizations, call on the global community to take urgent and concrete action to protect the lives of the people of Gaza.

Israel has renewed its military escalation since March 18, intensifying mass killings. As medical and health workers we cannot remain silent as the people of Palestine endure yet another devastating cycle of annihilatory violence, forced displacement, and use of hunger, thirst, and diseases as weapons of depopulation, threatening their very survival as a people. The same violence, aimed at total annexation and mass expulsion is breaking all-time records in the rest of the illegally occupied Palestinian territory.

It is now nearly impossible to survive in Gaza. Hospitals continue to be attacked, ambulances are being targeted, and medical personnel are being killed and starved while trying to save lives. Patients are dying from treatable injuries in the quasi-collapsing healthcare due to the lack of basic means and medical supplies, exacerbated by the total siege re-imposed on Gaza since March 2, the longest since the beginning of the war in October 2023.

Our demand is clear and stems directly from our duties as protectors of the right to health:

We demand the international community to immediately and urgently create a partial and unilateral peace-enforcing contingent from countries that have not been directly complicit with Israel's war of annihilation, and whose mandate and primary responsibility is to urgently protect Palestinians from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity and to facilitate the process of Palestinian-led reconstruction through direct action and intervention. As part of its duties, this contingent must also protect the unhindered provision of medical care, humanitarian aid, and the restoration of Gaza's healthcare infrastructure.
