Chicago Public School families are tired. They are tired of not being included in the decision making. They are tired of being ignored; told to look for “tables” where they will be heard when none have ever truly existed. 

On January 31st, Mayor Lightfoot said that “we have done everything that we can to make [remote learning] work as good as possible”. CPS families know that is not true. In fact, with the focus on returning in person, we are actually seeing remote learning quality decrease - that is unacceptable.  

CPS families also know that the current return to in person learning plan falls well short of what families need to feel safe and supported. This public fight over safety needs has only built more distrust in the district. 

Over the past month, parents and youth have gathered to craft our Trust, Learning, and Care (TLC) Demands. 

Under Trust, we want CPS to be more transparent and to stop cutting corners. For Learning, we must center the needs of those who need the most and respect local school stakeholders' authority. For Care, we remind ourselves that we are still in a damn pandemic and must do more to support our school and family community. We are requesting a meeting with CPS leadership to demand that new federal funding is used to support all of these demands.

Las familias de las Escuelas Públicas de Chicago están cansadas. Están cansados ??de no ser incluidos en la toma de decisiones. Están cansados ??de que los ignoren; se les dice que busquen “mesas” o espacios donde se les escuche la voz cuando ninguna ha existido realmente. 

El 31 de enero, la alcaldesa Lightfoot dijo que “hemos hecho todo lo posible para que [el aprendizaje remoto] funcione lo mejor posible.” Las familias de CPS saben que eso no es cierto. De hecho, con el enfoque en regresar en persona, estamos viendo una disminución en la calidad del aprendizaje - eso es inaceptable.  

Las familias de CPS también saben que el regreso actual al plan de aprendizaje en persona está muy por debajo de lo que las familias necesitan para sentirse seguras y apoyadas. Esta lucha pública por las necesidades de seguridad solo ha generado más desconfianza en el distrito. 

Durante el último mes, los padres y los jóvenes se han reunido para colaborar y crear nuestras Demandas de Confianza, Aprendizaje y Cariño (TLC Demands). 

Bajo Confianza (Trust), queremos que CPS sea más transparente y deje de tomar atajos. Para Aprendizaje (Learning), debemos centrar las necesidades de quienes más lo necesitan y respetar la autoridad de las partes interesadas de la escuela local. Bajo Cariño (Care), recordamos que todavía estamos en una maldita pandemia y debemos hacer más para apoyar a nuestra comunidad escolar y familiar. Estamos solicitando una reunión con el liderazgo de CPS para exigir que se utilicen nuevos fondos federales para apoyar todas estas demandas.
