As a dedicated physician and your constituent, I am writing to urge you to oppose any cuts to Medicaid in budget reconciliation bills or other funding measures or legislation. Taking away access to health care, in any form, would be detrimental to patients like mine — your constituents.

Physicians know how critical access to reliable, affordable care is for our patients. When people are able to get care when they need it — as opposed to just when they can afford it — they’re able to manage their health, prevent complications, and better learn, work, and care for their families. When they’re unable to afford care, their otherwise manageable health conditions worsen and become more expensive to treat. They’re less able to work and give back to their communities. They also may be forced to rely on expensive emergency care, driving up uncompensated care costs for hospitals.

Medicaid, its expansion in most states under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and other provisions of the ACA have made a world of difference in the health of patients like mine and countless people in our district. Any cuts to these programs, in the form of block grants, adding red tape work requirements, taking away ACA premium subsidies, or other cuts would mean taking away health care from working people and families. It would mean your constituents suffering worse health outcomes. It would mean less healthy families and communities in our district.

I strongly urge you to oppose any cuts to Medicaid or ACA premium subsidies. My patients — your constituents, are depending on you.
