We don't often hear about the impact that our state's Supreme Court has on our daily lives, but the April 1 election to fill a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court will have a critical and lasting impact on everything we're fighting for at the Center for Racial and Gender Equity and Workers Center for Racial Justice.
Our State Supreme Court often has final say on a wide range of policies that impact our daily lives: from health care access, to workers rights, voting rights, reproductive freedoms and more.
As we work to build independent Black political power in Wisconsin, the leanings of the court can make or break our efforts. Courts have the power to reject unfair district maps that strip power from marginalized communities, which are often drawn to restrict the power of Black residents by dividing our communities up into separate districts.
When we sit out of Supreme Court elections, we relinquish our power to demand fair representation. Don't sit this important election out - make a commitment to vote on April 1!
