Oppose AB 957 to protect your constituents against puppy mills

As your constituent and voter in Wisconsin, I am writing to urge you to oppose AB 957. The “Protect Our Farms Act” is very broadly written and would have larger repercussions for the people in our state. AB 957 is a bill that would strip cities and counties of their ability to pass animal ordinances that they might feel is best for their community.

Although it appears to be about protecting livestock, this bill would actually prevent localities from passing any ordinance that would protect their citizens from falling victim to puppy mill sales in stores. Puppy stores have been linked to some of the worst puppy mills in the country and have been known to sell sick puppies, while the customer incurs that cost. These same stores are also offering predatory finance loans with interest rates reaching upwards of 188%. For these reasons and more, our cities and counties should absolutely retain the right to oversee this issue when it is occurring in their backyard.

13 Wisconsin localities have already passed ordinances with this language and I strongly urge you to vote in favor of local control in order to allow our cities to protect their communities in the best way they can.
