HR 8082 (Securing Local Communities Input in Broadband Development Act) would cancel the FCC's 2018 regulations that preempt local zoning authority over cell towers (known as the Small Cell Order and the Moratoria Order). These regulations implemented onerous shot clocks as short as 10 days for communities across the country, as well as prohibiting local governments from pausing the deployment of wireless facilities.
A number of bills are moving through Congress that would fast-track wireless deployments, including on federal lands like National Parks and National Forests. These include HR 6492, 7376, 8230, 3557 and S.4821.
The 118th Congress has limited time. In January, any bills that have not passed will terminate and would have to start the legislative process over again from scratch in the next Congress. While the press is focused on the presidential race, it's all the more important that we remind our members of Congress (particularly during an election season) that we remain focused on opposing legislation that will increase proliferation of antennas, radiofrequency, and electromagnetic exposure across the country.
