We are resident physicians and fellows across eight CIR chapters of the University of California Health system. We provide the high quality patient care and innovative research that make UC Health a prestigious, nationally recognized health system – and we demand that you support us, your doctors who save lives across California.
We make your academic medical centers and community hospitals/clinics successful, yet have had to make continuous life sacrifices to do so. We work 16 to 24-hour shifts and 80-hour weeks, a standard in residency training, but unfathomable to those outside the medical field. We carry hefty medical school debt, and now spend a majority of our paychecks on childcare, as well as required necessities to do our job such as parking or transportation, electronic equipment, and safety equipment like lead aprons and goggles that protect us from radiation.
We, the undersigned resident physicians and fellows at UCSF, UCSF-Fresno, UCLA, UCDH, UCI, UCR, UCSDH, and Olive View-UCLA, demand improvements such as:
Resident conditions are patient care conditions and we demand better care for all – patients, communities, and housestaff alike.
We are united as CIR, as 1UC, and are prepared to do what it takes to do more than survive residency. We will thrive.
