Congressmember Norma Torres: Stand with immigrants, NOT ICE!

On June 9th, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on two resolutions, including House Resolution 488, a resolution that wears the mask of being against antisemitic violence, while in reality pushing for increasing the violence and repression that is being inflicted on California's immigrant communities by the Trump administration.

H.Res 488 irresponsibly maligns immigrants as a whole as dangerous by citing an isolated act of violence committed on June 1, 2025 in Boulder, Colorado. The resolution goes as far as saying that the actions of an individual person: “highlights the need to aggressively vet aliens who apply for visas to determine whether they endorse, espouse, promote, or support antisemitic terrorism or engage in other antisemitic or anti-American activity” (H.R. 488, 2025). As residents of California, including those in CA-35, are currently facing the vindictive actions of President Trump and are being terrorized by aggressive, racially motivated ICE raids and detainments, Norma Torres voted yes on this resolution that not only legitimizes the Trump administration horrendous mass deportation rhetoric but even goes as far as expressing gratitude for ICE, the very agency currently tearing apart Inland Empire families and communities.

Congressmembers Norma Torres has touted her immigrant background as proof of her empathy for immigrants and their struggles. But rather than calling out this resolution for its anti-immigrant rhetoric and dangerous insinuations, she VOTED YES, essentially affirming Trump's mass deportation push and thanking the agencies that are terrorizing her very constituents. The Inland Empire doesn't need anymore lip service, it needs elected officials that will fight for the rights and dignity of their immigrant constituents and their families, 100% of the time!

We demand that Congressmember Torres:
1) Publicly apologize for this vote
2) Commit to fighting the criminalization of our community in Congress and in her district, with consistent and dedicated accountability
3) Commit to an in-person meeting with directly impacted families and the local organizations that have come together to create this petition to echo the concerns of CA-35 constituents and find opportunities to work together
