Last summer, the Indiana Elections Division and the Governor took action during the COVID-19 state of emergency to move the Indiana primary election date, and eased requirements for mail-in voting for the election. These changes allowed more people to vote safely and securely, and were a first step toward imagining a more comprehensive vote-by-mail system for our state. Although the Indiana Legislature considered restrictions on absentee voting through SB 353, they ultimately did not enact the voting restrictions in SB 353.
We know that Vote By Mail is a proven system that works in Oregon, and is being expanded in many states, allowing voters to cast ballots safely and securely. Our legislators need to know that we support this common-sense policy to increase access to the vote, even when the General Assembly isn't in session.
