SIGN ON: GREEN NEW DEAL FOR CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Chicago is already facing the consequences of the climate crisis—from flooding to extreme heat—and our public schools are no exception. Exposure to lead, unreliable HVAC systems, and billions of dollars in deferred maintenance, combined with a reliance on dirty fossil fuels make them no place for students to learn and teachers to educate.

Sunrise Chicago is calling on Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago City Council, and the Chicago Board of Education to use their power to enact a “Green New Deal for Chicago Public Schools.” It's past time we fix our school buildings, provide pathways to green jobs, teach the truth about the climate crisis, guarantee healthy meals, and have plans to respond to climate disasters.

Together, we will ensure the city of Chicago combats the climate crisis, builds community resilience, and rights historical injustices, by investing in our public schools, especially those on the South and West Sides.
