Help stop the abuse of captive big cats!

Across the country, thousands of big cats like tigers, lions, leopards, and pumas are kept as pets in miserable, insecure, and unsafe conditions by irresponsible owners. Baby cubs are ripped away from their mothers at birth, drugged, deprived of sleep, and beaten for use in photos with the public and "cub pettings" where the public pays to pet these animals. After a few months, when they grow too large, they are often discarded.

The private ownership of these wild animals poses a serious public safety risk. This was highlighted in Zanesville, Ohio when numerous wild animals escaped a private property. The public and first responders face being attacked when the animals escape. And ultimately, it's the animals who pay with their lives when they are gunned down.

It's time for this to end.

The Big Cat Public Safety Act passed the House in 2020, and now, Representatives Mike Quigley, D-Ill. and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., have reintroduced the legislation to ensure it is passed through the House and the Senate, and signed into law. Please email your Representatives and Senators right away and tell them to support this legislation.

When you're finished, don't forget to follow up with a phone call! Call (202) 224-3121. This is the Capitol Switchboard — just give your zip code and ask to be transferred to your U.S. Senators. When the staffer answers the phone, you can say, "Hi, I'm a constituent, and I'm calling to ask that you please vote YES on the Big Cat Public Safety Act."

Thank you for taking action to tell your Senators to vote “YES” to end the trade and nationwide abuse of captive big cats!
