Washington renters need stability now

The 2024 Legislative Session ends soon and the rent stabilization bill, House Bill 2114, failed to move forward out of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

Use the form below to send letters to your legislators to ensure that they know that rent stabilization is still needed, and that we expect them to bring back rent stabilization legislation next year and finally provide relief for over one million renter households across Washington.

The rent stabilization bill as passed by the House would have capped rent increases at 7% which on today's average rent of $1,763 would mean another $123 each month. This is still a lot, but it would have been predictable and more sustainable than the unfair and excessive increases that landlords are issuing now. And that increase would have been more than enough for landlords to cover expenses and still make profits.
