We call on Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai to resign from office immediately after endangering the lives of legislators, staff, and civil servants, not to mention their families, by keeping their exposure a partisan secret.
On May 20th, Rep Andrew Lewis (Dauphin) tested positive for COVID-19. Republicans, led by Turzai, kept the diagnosis a secret among their caucus, neglecting to inform any staff or members of the other party that they had been exposed. Meanwhile Republicans took measures to keep themselves safe. While failing to inform people who were exposed to the virus, Turzai continued to push aggressively on bills to undermine stay-at-home and other abatement measures.
This brazen disregard for human life is a complete abandonment of the public trust, and his subsequent cover-up borders on criminality. Mike Turzai's partisanship literally put the lives of public servants, officials and their families at risk. He should resign immediately and so should anyone else found through an immediate investigation to have taken part in concealing this outbreak from legislators and staff.
