Yet Senate Republicans refuse to take gun violence seriously and have left the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) without a director since 2015. Jewish Dems are grateful for President Biden's leadership on this critical issue and applaud his choice to nominate Steve Dettelbach to serve as the ATF Director. We urge the Senate to swiftly confirm Steve Dettelbach to serve as ATF Director and stand against gun violence.

Republicans continue to make it clear that they are not interested in taking action against gun violence. Their attacks against previous nominees and constant obstruction of common-sense gun safety legislation show that they are loyal to the NRA, not the American people. The Senate must confirm Dettelbach so he can begin his life-saving work to prevent gun violence.

Steve Dettelbach is eminently qualified to serve as ATF Director. He is a highly respected former U.S. Attorney and federal prosecutor who shares our Jewish values. His nearly 30-year long career in law enforcement clearly demonstrates his unwavering commitment to public safety. He has a proven track record of supporting comprehensive gun safety measures as well as working to combat domestic terrorism. Dettelbach will undoubtedly prioritize the safety and security of the American people.
