Citizen Action of Wisconsin
Advocate for Climate and Equity Plans to be include in 2021 State Budget

No matter where we live, the color of our skin, or what's in our wallet, most of us just want to be able to pay the bills, put food on the table, keep our families safe and healthy, and leave behind a beautiful and healthy world for our children. But before we can realize that vision we must address the existential climate crisis that threatens our very existence as a species and the shocking level of racial economic inequality in our towns and cities.

By joining together across race and class, with our community leaders, and with our elected leaders to develop and implement local Climate Action Plans, we can implement green industry transitions in our small towns and cities that will mean real systematic change resulting in economic justice, as well as making sure we leave behind a beautiful and healthy Wisconsin for generations to come. We can stave off climate catastrophe with a green industrial transistion from carbon-based energy to green renewable energies that will produce overall health and environmental benefits AND thousands of jobs.  We can revitalize our most marginalized communities and help all of us in Wisconsin recover and rebuild from this pandemic.

Please include Funding for Climate Action Plans in 2021 State Budget

Dear [elected official],

We are living in unprecedented times. COVID-19 has made visible the existential climate crisis we've been living in, while simultaneously deepening the depression-like economic conditions many Wisconsinites already face. The time is now to take bold action. This moment gives us an opportunity to make real investments in our Green infrastructure and meet the international Climate goals(45% cut in emission and 100% renewable energies). By doing so we can address the economic crisis that many of our most marginalized communities face by making sure the jobs created by a green industry transition are living wage, family-sustaining jobs. Governor Evers, below you will find our Climate & Equity demands. We urge that you seriously consider and include them in your upcoming Budget. The time is now because we might not get another chance. 1. State should fund local Climate Action Plans. (CAPs) 2. State funding for transitional jobs programs for getting people into energy conservation or renewable energy programs that cut climate emissions. 3. Forgive the consumer utility debt 4. Utilities mandate on-bill financing 5. Allow states and cities to raise building standards for greenhouse mitigation. Thank you for your time and for doing what's right for all of us in Wisconsin

Sincerely, [Your information here]
